Information kept in your browser

DegreePilot uses your browser’s local storage for features you choose to use. This information stays in that browser unless you clear it:

• the colleges you save;
• your selected home state for cost and funding context; and
• your light or dark theme preference.

You can remove saved colleges in Saved Colleges, clear your home-state selection where it appears, change your theme, or clear this site’s stored information through your browser settings. Saved colleges do not currently sync between browsers or devices.

Temporary answers and page state

Funding Match answers other than the home-state selection are held in the open page and are cleared when you use “Clear my answers” or end that page session. DegreePilot does not save those answers to an account or its database.

Search and Guided Discovery choices, and the colleges selected for comparison, can appear in the page address. That means they may remain in browser history and may be included in ordinary request logs. Do not put sensitive personal information into search fields or page addresses.

Requests to DegreePilot

When you use search, discovery, or Saved Colleges, the site sends the needed search text or college identifiers to its servers to return results. Saved-college lookup responses are marked not to be stored in shared caches, and DegreePilot does not add those requests to a user profile.

Like most hosted websites, DegreePilot’s hosting and database providers may process technical request information needed to deliver, secure, and diagnose the service. This can include an IP address, browser or device information, requested URL, response status, and time of access. Provider and account settings control the retention of infrastructure logs; DegreePilot does not promise a specific log retention period that it cannot independently enforce.

Cookies, analytics, advertising, and accounts

• DegreePilot uses Google Analytics on the Production website to understand aggregate site usage and improve the experience. Google Analytics may set cookies and process information such as pages visited, interactions, browser or device details, and approximate location.
• DegreePilot does not use Google Analytics to calculate admission chances, personalize financial-aid estimates, or sell personal information. DegreePilot does not currently use advertising.
• Production does not currently offer accounts or authentication.
• DegreePilot does not sell personal information.

The public application is hosted by Vercel and uses a Neon-hosted database for college information. Google provides the analytics service. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy practices.

Official links and feedback

DegreePilot links to colleges, government agencies, program sources, and other official destinations. When you follow an external link, that destination receives your request and applies its own privacy practices.

Feedback is handled through the project’s public GitHub Issues page. Anything submitted there may be public, so do not include contact details, financial information, school records, immigration details, account credentials, or other sensitive information. Read the instructions on the Contact and feedback page before submitting.

Students and families

DegreePilot is an informational research product and may be used by students and families. It does not ask users to create profiles or submit school records, test scores, financial documents, or other sensitive student information. Please do not send that information through public feedback channels.

Changes to this notice

This notice describes the public site as of September 9, 2026. It should be updated before DegreePilot adds accounts, advertising, new persistent storage, materially different analytics, or another materially different service provider.
